Candle Care & Safety Guide

Essential care rituals to maximize clean burn life and maintain fire safety.

The Crucial First Burn

When lighting for the first time, allow the wax to melt completely across the diameter to the glass edges (approximately 2 to 3 hours). This prevents “tunneling” and sets the wax memory for clean subsequent burns.

Trim Wick to 5mm

Before lighting your candle, always trim the cotton wick to 5mm. A trimmed wick ensures a calm, steady flame, prevents soot or mushrooming, and extends burn life by up to 20%.

4-Hour Session Maximum

Never burn a candle for more than 4 consecutive hours. Excessive burn times cause the vessel to overheat and can burn off delicate top perfume oils too quickly.

The 10mm Safety Buffer

Discontinue burning when approximately 10mm of solid wax remains at the bottom of the glass jar. Burning a candle without sufficient wax buffer can cause direct heat shock to the glass base.

Understanding Your CLP Safety Label

In strict accordance with the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation and British Standard BS EN 15494, every Ayzana candle features a mandatory chemical safety and allergen label on the underside base of the jar.

What is on the CLP label?

  • Identification of potential botanical allergens naturally present in perfume oils (e.g. Linalool, Coumarin, Limonene, Geraniol)
  • Precautionary statements (P-statements) regarding skin contact and safe disposal
  • Harmonised European UFI (Unique Formula Identifier) codes
  • Emergency contact and distribution details under CD Distribution UK

Upcycling Your Glass Vessel

When your candle reaches the end of its burn life, the glass vessel can be effortlessly cleaned and repurposed as an elegant desk pen holder, cotton pad organiser, or succulent planter:

  1. Place the jar in warm water to gently soften the remaining 10mm wax.
  2. Wipe out the softened wax with a paper towel (do not pour wax down household drains).
  3. Pop out the metal wick sustainer clip.
  4. Wash the glass with warm soapy water.
